Torklift Superhitch Installation
I put one of these on my 1 ton this weekend, it went well , took about 2 hours and did it without air tools, no problem.
All the holes matched up except 2, I drilled those. 900$ and well worth it. I hung the brackets loose and then slid the cross member in place. The spare tire was a tight fit , but did no changes to it or the exhaust pipe. Installation of Torklift Superhitch #F1002 on 2003 Ford F350 I wanted to tow a 24' race trailer behind my truck while carrying an Arctic Fox 990. This would require an extension of at least 24". I evaluated all the products on the market, including the Reese Tow Beast hitch and extension, but the Superhitch is vastly superior. It is also the only hitch designed specifically for truck campers. It is more expensive, but well worth the extra expense. Here are pictures of the end plates as I am unboxing the hitch: http://www.radauto.com/Nov_2006_002.jpg http://www.radauto.com/Nov_2006_003.jpg This is the hitch piece which attaches to the end plates: http://www.radauto.com/Nov_2006_004.jpg Everything has a nice powder coated finish. Quality welding is evident throughout. The included hardware: http://www.radauto.com/Nov_2006_005.jpg You can view the Torklift installation manual for this item HERE I do not intend to replace the factory manual here, just to supplement it and add some helpful pictures. So read the manual and follow it, I will not repeat what's in the manual, just add my installation notes. I would not have attempted this installation without some quality air tools. Your first step is to remove your factory hitch, and that itself is very difficult without a good impact wrench. So if you were thinking of just using a set of sockets because this thing is no-drill, think again. It is also very helpful to do this installation with 2 relatively strong individuals because it helps a lot to have someone to help you lower the factory hitch and raise the Superhitch into position. Remove the factory hitch. Hold onto it if you have the space, because Superhitches have quite a good resale value so when you sell your truck swap it back out and sell the Superhitch. Assemble the Superhitch and lift it into place. Even with 2 people, it would be very difficult to hold it into place and bolt it on. So what I did is put a piece of wood on an automotive floor jack and use it to lift the weight of the Superhitch. Then we just positioned it and started bolting it into place. Everything else in the manual is pretty straight-forward. It also has some very important and helpful information about weight distribution and towing. We carry several types of weight distribution setups to compliment the Superhitch and extension. Bolting it into place: http://www.radauto.com/Nov_2006_017.jpg In place: http://www.radauto.com/Nov_2006_019.jpg It took about an hour to do it. In the last picture you can see the 4 holes in the side of the end plate to which you attach your rear Torklift tie-down. The Superhitch and your choice of extension from 21" to 48" is now only $769 with FREE SHIPPING. Re: Torklift Superhitch Installation
I've put several reciever type hitches on trucks, but they were all one piece construction...where the side plates were welded to the square tubing piece that runs perpendicular to the side plates. Seems like that would be stronger than using 4 bolts.
|
Re: Torklift Superhitch Installation
well the 4" box tubing rests inside the hangers then attached by bolts. The strength is there and not on the bolts.
Superhitch: http://members.cox.net/rtoyz/TL_Supe...SuperHitch.JPG http://www.pirate4x4.com/productrevi..._pic_small.jpg The hitch was 450$ and the 2 extensions trussed was 300$ I mean being able to haul 12000 lbs at 48 inches extended isnt small bananas . The chain and turnbuckles are stout and should come into play occasionally. |
Re: Torklift Superhitch Installation
The thing is Tn Andy, Im gonna have a 10 1/2 ' camper on there it weighs 3500 lbs, and then 600 lb tongue weight when I hook up to the bugout trailer. Well see how much the front end comes up.
Thats gonna affect the front end steering etc.... I got air bags so the rearend should hold nice... |
Re: Torklift Superhitch Installation
You really are moving out, huh ?
Still thinking on your PM. |

Ya all true shit, I may be a crazy mfer but I dont bs.... |
Re: Torklift Superhitch Installation
I tow/haul ALOT, usually with a 20' 10,000 GVWR rated box trailer. I've never seen an extendable hitch like that. It says at 21" the tongue weight can be 750lbs which means a 7500 lb trailer. Wonder what they would allow if you only needed to come back like 16-18".? I guess the weight distributing hitch would be the way to go anyhow. Sometimes I haul stuff with the tailgate down and things sticking out the back. That's the reason for the interest.
Ya know, if a person didn't have to worry about the spare tire, they could make a really serious hitch by using the dual reciever idea but us 2 long solid steel shafts that went up under the spare and to a front support area. If they were below the spare tire, they could be removed when accessing the spare. The shafts would be one heavy deal though. Mayby 1/4" box tube would be strong enough? Tony |

This hitch would look good on this beast. But he says that he's already got a v-7 hitch on it. I wonder if its' the same hitch?

Holy S#%*T!!!!!
What a rig, AND A powerstroke!!!! I thought the thing was gas! Price is a bit steep, but I think its worth 18K$ Ultimated bugout rig. and an fin dually!!!!!!!!!!!!! Id look into that thing if i was in the market. Are you thinkin of buyin it Tony? If so better jump on it fast........ You can live in it, and a battering ram up front!!!!!! You could tow a 38 foot toy trailer behind it no problem. Youd have to really check it out, and drive it a lot. I dont know about a class 7 hitch tho. |

It is a steal IMO at $22,000. Quigly conversions run about $10,000 and the dually rear conversion would be another $4? There are other quigly's on ebay and people are askign anywhere from $18,000 with very high mileage up to $30,000. No, I'm not in that market right now. But it would be a cool rig. I think his reserve is 18,000.00. He says it should get 20 mpg. That would be impressive. The guy claims he towed 20,000 with it for a short distance. If anything, I'd be looking into a box truck and a flatbed trailer behind it.
I have a v10 pickup 4x4 crew (now 6 speed) and 2 box trailers. I put timbren overload springs on mine and I like :bear_wub: them when loaded, just are a bit rough empty. Now have 308,000 on it, but only about 100,000 on the new..ahem.. engine, transfer and tranny. Runs like its just getting broken in. Pulls my 10,000 lb trailer real well, but I don't think I'd be as comfortable with some of those 14,000 and 16,000 lb rigs in the hills of Pa. The house in the pics belongs to an UPS executive in TN. I sometimes make expedite deliveries for Kuhns Brothers Log homes here in Pa. The load on the pickup was a load that I went to Georgia for and took to ?? VT? It needed to be there by a certain time and Ga was the only Fabral roofing dealer that had the stuff in stock.... something like that. The white box trailer hit a tree that jumped out in front of it during one of these last snows we had. Was going down a sharp incline...(in second gear... 20 mph) but I forgot to back off on the electric brakes. They locked up every time I touched the brakes and caused the trailer to skid sideways. Rather than take the truck into the trees on an upcoming sharp turn, I took it over to a ditch on the left side to try to slow up.... but the trailer didnt' follow.. If that tree hadn't been there.. I would have done a 180..... it was the trees fault the whole time. |
